It was the time of campus placement when top companies were recruiting soon-to-be managers. As interviews by corporate honchos were giving some of us the heebie-jeebies while others were rejiggering their resumes to give an outstanding impression. We were told in the personality development lectures that "Your resume is reflection of you". Those who skipped the lectures were running haphazardly for the things to remember before an interview. A lot of students were shortlisted on the basis of their intelligence. Dumb and dulls were omitted from the group of shrewd and savvy. Rumors diffused by word of mouth that the company is here to employ only three candidates. Those grapevine communications thwarted our hopes of getting through the first interview. But we marched forward individually in search of light at the end of the tunnel.
The company made an announcement to gather in the auditorium for the introduction about the company. With the help of ostentatious slides made in PowerPoint they briefed us about the company’s history, management, board of directors, worldwide locations etc. At the end of presentation they tempted us with the handsome salary packages, the perks and the emoluments. Ahem-ahem, it was not on par with IIMs. Everyone was slipped into a sort of reverie. The sudden announcement for the first round of interview acted as a wake-up call. We started running here and there in panic. Some of the guys rushed towards the restroom to have a last glimpse of their formal attire. Everyone started rehearsing counterfeited smile to hide out the anxiety which was well reflected by the sweat off the brow. The interviewers called interviewees one-by-one inside the small room spacious enough for four persons. FOUR! Oops, it was a three to one interview. While it took merely five minutes for some, others were arrested for as long as hours by the interviewers being scrutinized for the right post. We rushed towards the candidate who’d been done with the interview, inquiring him about the type of questions being asked inside. Rephrasing some of the questions, he was hardly able to recall one or two. One after another we all went into that room and underwent through the interview process. As this phenomenon of interview finished by the day evening, everyone was asked to go to their home/hostel and the result will be communicated to us in a week’s time on the emails of the selected candidates. Few of us got selected and rest geared up for the next try. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!!!
